Franz Albanese – flautist, conductor

    Music and artistic director of the Flutes Orchestra of “Santa Cecilia”.

Italian flautist, musical director, conductor, Franz Albanese has enjoyed a worldwide career for more than forty years. He studied at the “Santa Cecilia” Conservatory in Rome, at the Academy “Chigiana “ in Siena, holds a Doctorate in Musicology at the University of Bologna and in composition at the University of Los Angeles. During of 50 years of playing activity he performed as soloist, chamber player and conductor(more than 2200 concerts) in over 64 countries worldwide. He taught at various higher educational institutions, conducted the vast classical symphonic repertoire, including more than 64 premiers of contemporary symphonic works.

He  has made many recordings.

Head of the Department of superior Education  at the Conservatory “Santa Cecilia” in Rome  he was the Director of the conservatory from1988 to 2012. From 1998 to 2011 he was the principal conductor and artistic director of the Regional Symphony Orchestra of  Molise. Being the artistic and musical director of “Amiata” festival (Siena), president of the Association of Culture “Doppler”,  musical and artistic director of the Association of Culture “Theorem of Rome” he  has won prestigious awards including the “Anassilaos” Prize for Music; "Paul Harris" (highest honor of Rotary), Honorable Knight of the Italian Republic.

Since 2006 he is  music and artistic director of the  Flutes Orchestra of “Santa Cecilia”.

From 2016 he is the vice- director of the conservatory “Santa Cecilia” in Rome and responsible for the artistic and productive activity.
